Everything that users do to contribute to the site earns them points. Right now, points can't be used for anything, but I am planning to implement some sort of rewards later on. I'll post about it when it becomes relevant.

I have 0 points and that makes me feel inadequate.  I don't know what points do, but I want some just so that no one can ever tell me that I'm pointless.
