Zen koans for the kids
This article was aggregated from
On Saturday, Keimi and I returned to the library for another armful of books. One of them, the “Book of Riddles,” is presumably for small children, but it contains a particular riddle, so deceptively and profoundly simple, that it might be mistaken for a Zen koan:
What is big and red and eats rocks?
Don’t dwell on your answer. The solution is as plain as the nose on your face before you were born. In fact, it’s so obvious that any thought at all will probably result in it slipping through your grasping fingers like moonlight.
Meditate on it one more time, making your mind as still as a stagnant pond:
What is big and red and eats rocks?
