Fuzzy Math & Refresh Times?

Well, I finally clued in to the mismatch between the Recently Popular Content list, the iGoogle Widget, and the front page refresh rates. I am still lost when it comes to the numbers. Why does a topic with 205 reads on the front page show 8 reads in the Recent Popular Content list? Is there a unique impression / non-unique impression glitch or what? There's got to be some artificial inflation in here. With 30 readers, there are stories that come up with multiple thousands of hits on the front page...? Also - does the Recently Popular Content list get wiped and started from scratch on a schedule? If so, it hurts people who post toward the end of the cycle and benefits those who post towards the beginning. Just wondering. Thanks.

Recently = 24 hours

Yep, the recently popular content refreshed on a fixed schedule every 24 hours. Number of reads is counted from that refresh. The number of reads on the frontpage includes all the reads the post ever got.

True, it does mean that the ones posting later on that cycle might not do as well on that list.

So...timing?

So in order to avoid getting purged an hour or two after a post goes up, what time does the refresh happen? And is it JST or GMT or what? Thanks.

Don't think about that too much...

But the website it set for GMT+9, and reset is on midnight.
